WAEC Hails Smooth Conduct of 2025 BECE Despite Minor Hitches, Final Paper Today

Accra, Ghana - 18 June, 2025 - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commended its team for a job well done in conducting the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the country.
Despite encountering some logistical challenges, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, described the performance as "commendable" in an interview with Citi Eyewitness News.
According to Mr. Kapi, the Council's primary responsibility is to ensure that every candidate has a smooth examination experience, and he believes that WAEC has fulfilled this duty.
“I will say that on our part, we will pat ourselves on the back and say that we did a good job,” he said. “Usually, after examinations, what you expect as an examining body is that every candidate is provided the opportunity to write—in terms of questions, in terms of stationery. All of these things went to the candidates.”
Mr. Kapi noted that a few minor problems occurred during the exams, including delays caused by a vehicle breakdown and challenging terrain. These issues were promptly resolved by WAEC, which implemented corrective measures, such as deploying additional vehicles, to prevent future disruptions.
As the BECE comes to a close, candidates will sit for the final paper today Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The last paper is Arabic (Essay & Objective), marking the culmination of the examination process for this year's batch of candidates.
