Mahama Ayariga Condemns Brutal Murder of NHIA Director in Upper East Region

Bawku, Upper East Region - 20 May, 2025 - Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has condemned the brutal murder of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, a district director of the National Health Insurance Authority, who was shot and burned to death in the Upper East Region.

Mr. Akugri was shot and killed, and his body set ablaze in Nangodi, near Bolgatanga.

In a statement, Mr. Ayariga described the murder as "gruesome" and "dastardly", and expressed his deep condolences to the family of the deceased. He called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Ayariga called for calm and restraint in the Bawku area, where tensions are high, while commending the local youth for their recent restraint and commitment to peace.

He noted that progress is being made to restore stability and warned against actions that could undermine the peace process.

The ongoing efforts of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku situation were also highlighted by Mr. Ayariga, who encouraged all to focus on this initiative.
