Court orders OSP to release documents in Cecilia Dapaah theft case

Accra, Ghana -  October 24, 2024 - The Accra High Court has directed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to provide crucial documents to Patience Botwe, the former house help of ex-Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who is standing trial for allegedly stealing large sums of money from Dapaah's residence.

The court's ruling follows Botwe's application to access investigation caution and charge statements, as well as transcripts of interviews conducted by the OSP involving Dapaah and her husband. Botwe's lawyers argued these documents are vital for her defense and cross-examination.

Justice Marie-Louis Simmons dismissed the OSP's objections, citing the Constitution's guarantee of an accused person's right to adequate time and resources to prepare a defense.

The OSP must provide the documents within a week.
