The OSP got it wrong, Ofori-Atta is not a fugitive - NPP

Accra, Ghana - 14 Feb, 2025 - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vehemently defended former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, dismissing claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that he is a fugitive, describing declaration as "unwarranted" and "a national embarrassment".
At a news conference in Accra on Thursday, Feb 13, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye insisted that Mr Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana once his doctors declare him fit.
He also described the actions of the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng on Wednesday morning as unnecessary and dramatic.
According to him, the NPP has pledged to support any legitimate investigations but will resist what it perceives as political harassment.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong. He got it wrong. Once Ofori-Atta’s doctors declare him fit and healthy, he will return to the country,” Boakye stated.
“Until then, the Special Prosecutor should avoid making sensational statements provoking public emotions and creating drama over a matter that could have been adequately resolved through correspondence,” he added.
“If you label your former finance minister a fugitive, which indeed he is not, it amounts to a national embarrassment when indeed the length of your correspondence is just two weeks, and you can’t wait. It is not as if the person is lost. The person cannot be traced,” he added
