Minority Leader Slams NIB's "Selective Justice'' for Summoning Annoh-Dompreh

Accra, Ghana - Feb 14, 2025 - Ghana's National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has come under intense criticism from the Minority in Parliament for allegedly applying a "double standard" in its enforcement of justice, after summoning Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh over inciteful remarks while ignoring similar comments from a senior member of the ruling party.

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh was summoned by the NIB over remarks urging New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ablekuma to stand firm against supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, the Minority argues that the NIB's swift action in this case is a stark contrast to their inaction when NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande allegedly threatened the life of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin just a week ago.

Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei condemned the NIB's approach, during a press conference on Thursday, Feb, 13, stating that it raises serious concerns about the selective application of justice and the use of state institutions to target certain political figures.

She emphasized that all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, must be held to the same standard when it comes to public remarks.

“If the NIB is truly committed to upholding law and order, they must explain why the Minority Chief Whip was swiftly summoned for interrogation over his comment while the deputy director of operations at the presidency, who openly threatened the Minority Leader’s life, was allowed to walk free without consequences.”

“This double standard raises serious concerns about the selective application of justice and the use of state institutions to police certain political figures while others are allowed to act with impunity.

“If public remarks are to be scrutinized, all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, must be held to the same standard,” she added.
