Joyce Bawah Mogtari Seeks GH₵10 Million in Damages, Apology from Abronye Over Defamatory Remarks

Accra, Ghana - 08 April, 2025 - Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, is seeking GH₵10 million in compensation from Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, over alleged defamatory comments made on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.
Background to the Controversy
Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused Mogtari of turning down a ministerial position for a "stress-free" presidential staffer role with a GH₵95,000 monthly salary, also claiming she was "disrespectful to Ghanaians" during a television interview broadcast on Net 2 TV.
The comments, as per Mrs Mogtari's lawyers, R.O. Solomon Consulting, have spread widely online, including on GhanaWeb and social media, leading to significant public mockery and harm to her reputation.
Demands and Next Steps
Mogtari's lawyers, in a legal notice dated 3 April 2025, called Abronye's claims "false, reckless, and malicious", sparking intense public scrutiny. They claim Abronye aimed to defame Mogtari and are demanding a retraction, public apology, and GH₵10 million in compensation for harm to her reputation.
The legal team demands:
- An immediate and unreserved retraction of the defamatory remarks
- A public apology to be published across all platforms that circulated the original claims, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM
- GH₵10 million in compensation for reputational harm suffered by Mogtari
