The Judgement is a Travesty of Justice and We Will Appeal - Nana Agradaa's Lawyer

Accra, Ghana - 4 July, 2025 - Richard Asare Baffour, the lawyer representing popular Ghanaian televangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, (alias Nana Agradaa) has vowed to appeal the 15-year prison sentence handed down to his client by the Accra Circuit Court, describing it as a 'travesty of justice.'

According to Baffour, the court's reasoning was flawed, and the sentence was harsher than expected.

“The good thing is that this judgment is delivered by the Circuit Court. So the appellate court—we will file the necessary processes early Monday morning. We are going to do that early Monday morning,” Baffour told Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, July 3.

“We were not expecting this at all but in summary, the judgment delivered by the court today is nothing but a travesty of justice,” he said.

“We say so not because the decision did not go our way. We say so because we are deeply concerned about the reasoning of the court.”

The case dates back to October 2022, when Nana Agradaa was arrested for advertising the money-doubling scheme during a church event. The scheme promised to double the amount of money invested, but it was deemed fraudulent by the authorities.

The prosecution had argued for a stiff penalty to deter similar fraudulent acts, and the court ultimately sided with them.

However, Nana Agradaa's lawyer had pleaded for leniency, citing her role as a mother of five and her remorseful conduct during the trial.

Nana Agradaa was sentenced on Thursday, July 3, by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah of Circuit Court 10 for two counts of defrauding by false pretences.

In addition to the jail term, she was fined GH¢300 for one count of charlatanic advertisement, with a 30-day custodial sentence in default of payment.
