GWL Shuts Down Kpong Plant on July 4 for Emergency Repairs
Accra, Ghana - 4 July, 2025 - The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a planned shutdown of its Kpong Treatment Plant on Friday, July 4, 2025, to carry out emergency repair works.
The shutdown is expected to affect water supply to several communities in the North-eastern parts of Accra, including Dodowa, Oyarifa, Madina, Adenta, Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Abokobi, Haatso, Agbogba, Ashongman, and surrounding areas.
According to a statement issued by GWL on Thursday, July 3, the shutdown will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The company has advised residents in the affected areas to store enough water ahead of the planned shutdown. GWL management expressed regret for the inconvenience the shutdown may cause and assured customers that the repairs are necessary to ensure continuous and improved service delivery.
The Kpong Treatment Plant is one of the major water treatment facilities serving Accra and its environs. The plant has a capacity to treat 80,000 cubic meters of water per day, making it a critical component of Ghana's water supply infrastructure. The emergency repair works are expected to improve the plant's efficiency and reliability.
GWL has provided contact numbers for essential service providers who may be affected by the shutdown. These include toll-free numbers and WhatsApp lines.

The company has assured customers that water supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair works.
“The inconvenience this may cause is deeply regretted,” he stated.
