Supreme Court Puts Chief Justice Removal on Ice, Adjourns Case Indefinitely

Accra, Ghana - 09 April, 2025 - The Supreme Court of Ghana has indefinitely adjourned a hearing on a petition seeking to halt the process of determining a prima facie case against the Chief Justice.
The petition, filed by Vincent Ekow Asafuah, contests the president's decision to consult the Council of State without first hearing from the Chief Justice, deeming it unconstitutional.
Court Proceedings
The hearing was scheduled to take place on April 9, 2025, but the Attorney General's absence led to the adjournment. Godfred Yeboah Dame, representing the plaintiff, expressed surprise at the Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine's decision to attend a training workshop instead of the hearing.
Dame requested the court to adjourn the case to April 14, but the court, Justice Henrietta Mensah Bonsu decided to adjourn indefinitely.
