Sports Minister Calls for Media Support to Boost Ghana's Sports Development

Accra, Ghana - 02 March, 2025 - Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has emphasized the crucial role of the media in promoting sports growth and development in the country.
He made this call during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) at his office.
The minister outlined President John Mahama's vision to develop sports from the grassroots level, which includes reforms to revive community sports and reintroduce school sports. He acknowledged funding as a significant challenge but assured that his ministry would explore innovative ways to bridge the funding gap.
Hon. Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, encouraged the media to provide balanced coverage of sports, recognizing the importance of their role in shaping the sports industry.
The leadership of SWAG, led by President Kwabena Yeboah, assured the minister of their support and cooperation. The meeting concluded with a call to action, urging the minister to collaborate effectively with various sporting disciplines and prioritize Ghana's participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) delegation included several key executives, such as Vice President Evelyn Nsia-Asare, Secretary-General Charles Osei Asibey, and Deputy Secretary-General Kenneth Odeng Adade. Women's Commissioner Mavis Amanor, as well as Executive Board Members Augustine Kwabena Ohene-Bampoe Brenya, Franklin Anane-Gymah, and Tilda Elinam Acorlor, were also present.
The group was warmly received by Mr. William Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry.
