Kofi Adams Vows to Support Ghana's Armwrestling Team Ahead of 2027 African Games

Accra, Ghana - 02 March, 2025 - Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has commended the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for its outstanding leadership and achievements.
The minister's praise came during a meeting with GAF's leadership, led by President Charles Osei Asibey, who congratulated Hon. Adams on his new role.
"I am impressed by the progress made by the GAF, and I must say that I am amazed by how quickly the sport has grown, especially in terms of Ghanaian representation on the continent and globally," Hon. Adams said.
The minister attributed GAF's success to its strategic planning, effective management, and collaboration with stakeholders. He also emphasized the importance of supporting sports with high medal potential, saying, "The Ministry is working on classifying sports federations to ensure that those bringing in medals and international recognition receive the necessary resources."
Hon. Adams assured GAF of his ministry's fullest support, particularly as Ghana prepares for the 2027 African Games. With the right support, he believes Armwrestling has the potential to become a powerhouse for Ghana in international sports.
The meeting also discussed athlete welfare, talent identification, and coaching development. The federation raised concerns about the need for better opportunities for their athletes, including employment in the security services. Hon. Adams acknowledged these concerns and emphasized the need for a structured approach to supporting sports with high medal potential.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation has come a long way since its inception in 2016, with notable achievements including hosting and winning the 2018 African Armwrestling Championship.
