Sky Train Scandal: 'I'm Not in Hiding in Senegal'- Former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah Denies Evading Justice

Accra, Ghana - 25 March, 2025 - Solomon Asamoah, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), embroiled in the $2 million Sky Train scandal, has issued a strong rebuttal to allegations made by Ghana's Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine of evading justice, insisting his presence in Senegal is purely for corporate obligations, not to escape scrutiny.
Dr. Ayine revealed at a press conference on Monday, March 24, that Solomon Asamoah, a central figure in the Sky Train scandal, had relocated to South Africa before eventually settling in Senegal.
However, according to Asamoah, he traveled to Senegal on March 21, 2025, for meetings that had been planned well in advance. He emphasized that no government official had contacted him regarding any investigation before his departure from Ghana.
Asamoah's statement contradicts Dr. Ayine's claims that he had gone into hiding in Senegal after initially moving to South Africa.
Asamoah in a statement, has committed to cooperating with authorities, stating that he will return to Ghana shortly to provide assistance and information necessary to support the Attorney General's investigations.
The former GIIF boss has maintained his innocence, emphasizing that he has not engaged in any wrongdoing or criminal activity.
“In fact, I traveled out of Ghana on Friday 21st March 2025 to attend scheduled board meetings as part of a corporate responsibility that was planned well in advance. Prior to my departure I have been present in Ghana for long periods in both February and March. During this period, I was never contacted by any government official in relation to an invitation to assist in any investigation.
“However, on Saturday, 22nd March 2025, a day after departure from Accra, I was indeed contacted via whatsapp by an official of the National Intelligence Bureau who requested an online meeting with me which we agreed to hold on Wednesday 26th March at 4 pm. This would enable me to respond to any misconceptions and misunderstandings on any substantive matter related to investments by GIIF,'' portions of the statement read.
The controversy surrounds a $2 million payment made by GIIF for a sky train project, which Dr. Ayine alleges was made without necessary board approval. Asamoah's denial of the allegations has added a new twist to the saga, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigations.
