Accra, Ghana - 07 May, 2025 - Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been gifted a brand-new car by renowned philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo after a viral video showed him commuting to work in a public transport vehicle, known locally as a "trotro."

The video, which sparked widespread attention on social media, highlighted Asare's humility despite being the Black Stars' first-choice goalkeeper.

Asare's journey to the top has been marked by perseverance and determination. After suffering a devastating knee injury in 2023, many thought his career was over. However, with the help of former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingston, Asare made a remarkable comeback, eventually earning a national team call-up in March 2024.

Alhaji Agongo, founder of the collapsed Heritage Bank, was moved by Asare's humility and decided to reward him with the car. "When I saw the video, I was moved by his humility," Agongo said. "Here is someone representing our nation at the highest level yet remaining so grounded. Such a character deserves recognition."

Asare, who has been praised for his generosity, had previously shared nearly half of his national team bonuses with his club teammates, including players from the women's team. The goalkeeper was visibly emotional during the handover ceremony, expressing gratitude for Agongo's gesture and promising to continue giving his best for Ghana.

This is beyond my wildest dreams," he said, fighting back tears.

"I take the trotro not because I want sympathy, but because I believe in living simply. Mr. Agongo's kindness has overwhelmed me, and I promise to honour this gift by continuing to give my best for Ghana."

Asare's story serves as an inspiration to many, reminding Ghanaians that success is not measured by material possessions, but by character and impact. He will soon represent Ghana in the upcoming Unity Cup in England, where he will carry the weight of a powerful story that highlights the importance of humility and generosity.
