Kurt Okraku Seeks GHS30m in Damages from Journalist Atta Poku Over Defamatory Claims

Accra, Ghana - 24 Feb, 2025 - Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has filed a defamation lawsuit against journalist Collins Atta Poku and Sompa TV/FM owners, Teraone Media Limited, seeking GHC 30 million in damages, according to ghanasoccernet.

According to court documents, Okraku alleges that Atta Poku and Sompa TV/FM made false and defamatory statements against him during sports programs aired on November 18 and 28, 2024.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants falsely accused Okraku of misappropriating funds meant for Black Stars players, mistreating defender Daniel Amartey, and improperly buying buses for Division One League clubs.

Okraku's lawyers argue that these statements have caused their client significant harm and ridicule, both locally and internationally.

The GFA President is seeking GHC 30 million in damages, as well as a court order requiring the defendants to publish a public retraction and apology. He also wants a perpetual injunction to prevent the defendants from publishing further defamatory materials about him.

The case is expected to be heard in the coming weeks.
