School Feeding Programme to be Decentralized to Enhance Efficiency - Gender Minister

Accra, Ghana - 08 March, 2025 - In a move to enhance efficiency and improve meal quality, Ghana's Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has announced plans to decentralize the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
This development comes on the heels of a controversy surrounding the termination of contracts of all Regional and Zonal Coordinators under the GSFP, effective March 4, 2025.
Minister Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey met with 16 newly appointed Regional Coordinators on March 5, 2025, to outline the programme's new direction. She emphasized the importance of adhering to the GSFP's structure and encouraged collaboration with district and zonal coordinators.
The Minister also assured the coordinators of training and capacity-building sessions to prepare them for their new roles. The coordinators pledged to work together to ensure children receive nutritious meals under the programme.
The GSFP aims to provide free meals to schoolchildren, enhancing enrollment, attendance, and nutrition. However, the programme has faced challenges, including funding delays and allegations of corruption.
