Accra, Ghana - 25 March, 2025 - Ghana's Communications Minister, Sam George, has initiated a major shake-up at the Ghana Post Limited, dismissing nearly 100 staff members due to irregularities in their recruitment process.

The affected employees were hired after the December 7, 2024, general election, a period marked by procedural lapses, according to the minister.

Minister George emphasized his commitment to streamlining the ministry, ensuring that only personnel recruited through proper channels remain.

He stressed that his mission is to create a lean and efficient ministry, free from irregularities.

The move is part of a broader government effort to review and reverse questionable post-election appointments across the public sector. Officials argue that many of these recruitments were rushed through without due diligence, placing undue financial strain on government institutions.

The Ghana Post Limited dismissals have sparked concerns about unemployment and the impact on livelihoods. However, Minister George reassured that only recruitments that did not follow proper procedures are being revoked, and those with legitimate appointments have nothing to fear.

"If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalisation is ongoing," he told the press on Tuesday.

"Today, I have authorised a termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election,'' he added.
