Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana - Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has praised the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for their outstanding response to the recent Kumasi market fire.
The fire, which ravaged the Adum area of the Ashanti Region on March 21, destroyed numerous shops and properties, causing significant distress among traders.
On a visit to the fire-ravaged area on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Bawumia witnessed firsthand the Ghana National Fire Service's rapid and effective response to the disaster.
The former Vice President extended his sympathies to the traders affected by the Kumasi market fire, promising his continued support as they work to rebuild their businesses.
“I understand the pain and losses you have suffered, and it is my sincere hope that the support provided will assist you in recovering from this tragic incident,” he stated.
The devastating incident has shed light on the challenges traders face in major commercial hubs and the vital role emergency services play in mitigating such disasters.
To demonstrate his support, Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to aid in rebuilding their businesses.
“I am donating GH¢200,000 and 1,000 bags to the victims, and I urge private individuals to also support the traders in getting their livelihoods back,” he said.
