Ghana Highway Authority workers embark on nationwide strike on Nov 12

Accra, Ghana - Nov 11, 2024 - A nationwide strike by Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) workers is set to begin on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in protest of the government's implementation of the National Roads Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1118) .

The strike will significantly delay ongoing road infrastructure projects and vital administrative roadworks.

At the heart of the dispute are demands for the removal of two key officials: Ing. I.K. Mensah, Chairman of the GHA Board, and Ing. Collins B. Donkor, Chief Executive Officer of the National Roads Authority (NRA).

Workers argue that these officials have made decisions threatening the integrity of the roads sector.

The strike follows a formal petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, calling for broader consultations before implementing the new Act.

GHA workers have requested stakeholder consultations, expressing concerns about the Act's impact on the sector.
