Saglemi Housing Project: Works and Housing Committee Conducts Site Visit

Saglemi, Greater Accra Region, Ghana - 08 May, 2025 - The Committee on Works and Housing has conducted a site visit to the Saglemi affordable housing project to assess its current state.

Led by Chairman Hon. Vincent Asamoah, the committee found that the project remains incomplete, with significant challenges hindering its progress.

According to Director of Housing, Mr. Chris Pobee Abbey, the site's infrastructure and drainage systems are still unfinished, and the roads have deteriorated due to overgrown vegetation.

Furthermore, the committee noted that theft has been a major issue, with items such as streetlights and doors reported missing. This is attributed to the abandonment of the site by contractors and security personnel.

Hon. Asamoah expressed deep concern about the situation, citing the change in government in 2016/2017 as a major factor that halted progress on the project.

The committee is also concerned about discrepancies in the evaluation report, which has undergone changes since 2017.

Hon. Asamoah has urged the Ministry of Housing to take immediate action to address these issues and execute all necessary contracts to complete the project.

The Ministry has been tasked with finding solutions to the legal, infrastructural, and security challenges plaguing the site.
