Rice Importation Scam: OSP Charges Four with Forgery of Bawumia's Letter

Accra, Ghana - 19 June, 2025 - A major corruption scandal has hit Ghana's public sector, with four high-ranking officials charged with conspiring to hijack ten containers of imported rice at Tema Port. The accused, including Issah Seidu, James Keck Osei, John Abban, and Peter Archibold Hyde, are set to face trial after a thorough investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

According to the Special Prosecutor's office, the accused allegedly used fake documents and a forged letter purportedly from the Office of the Vice President to support their claim to the rice shipment.

The group, which includes a National Insurance Commission official and two senior Customs officials, is accused of overriding customs procedures to secure the goods.

The accused are due in court on June 27, 2025, and if convicted, they could face severe penalties.
