DVLA Slaps GH¢225 Fine on Traffic Offenders

Accra, Ghana - 19 June, 2025 - Ghana's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced a new set of fines and penalties aimed at improving road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

The updated list includes a range of offenses, such as driving with expired licenses, faulty vehicle parts, and improper documentation, all carrying a fine of GH¢225.

The move is part of the DVLA's efforts to reduce accidents and promote responsible driving habits.

According to the authority's CEO, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the new penalties are designed to support the DVLA's mandate of making Ghana's roads safer.

The DVLA is implementing these changes to fulfil its mandate of making our roads safer. We kindly ask for your full cooperation as we work together towards this goal,'' he wrote on facebook.

The updated fines are in line with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2180), which grant the DVLA's Compliance and Enforcement Unit the power to conduct roadside checks and impose sanctions on offenders. The authority has warned motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and their documentation is up to date to avoid penalties.

The DVLA has also cautioned against the use of fake licenses, permits, or number plates, which will face strict enforcement. While some drivers have called for more public education on the new measures, road safety advocates believe the stricter penalties will help deter violations and reduce accidents.

The DVLA has assured that enforcement will be fair, with offenders given the opportunity to rectify issues where applicable. The authority's goal is to promote a culture of responsible driving and improve road safety in Ghana.
