Police Intercept Massive Shipment of Tramadol in North East Region
Nalerigu, Ghana - In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the North East Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Nalerigu has intercepted a massive shipment of 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, popularly known as "Red." The restricted drug was concealed in a truck and intercepted near Gbinri in the North East Region on September 18, 2025.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik. The suspects were arrested after two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 were intercepted. The vehicles, loaded from Sankase in the Republic of Togo, were en route to Gbinri.
A search of the trucks uncovered the 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg concealed among other goods in one of the trucks with registration number GR 1712-16. The exhibits have since been secured for evidential purposes.
Tramadol is a restricted drug in Ghana due to its potential for abuse and addiction.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted that the consignment was destined for Moses Ayorik at Gbinri for onward delivery to another individual at Gushegu. All six suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest other individuals connected to the case.
