Paul Adom-Otchere Released After Meeting Revised Bail Conditions
Accra, Ghana – 1 August, 2025 – Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has been released from custody after meeting revised bail conditions set by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Adom-Otchere was released on Friday, August 1, in the company of former Attorney General Godfred Dame and his lawyers. However, he was unexpectedly recalled to the OSP's office to complete some administrative procedures.
Adom-Otchere was detained over a revenue assurance contract between GACL and a private firm, allegedly awarded without full board approval. The OSP had initially set stringent bail conditions, requiring Adom-Otchere to provide two landed properties registered in his name as surety. However, after negotiations with his legal counsel, the OSP approved revised bail conditions, which were secured by the Jospong Group of Companies.
The revised bail conditions meet the objectives of the original bail terms, according to the OSP. The Jospong Group of Companies acted as surety, enabling Adom-Otchere's release. The OSP emphasized that the matter remains under active investigation.
Some Ghanaians have criticized the initial bail conditions as "excessive and unreasonable". Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng defended the requirement of landed property, stating that it's a legal mechanism to ensure compliance and prevent flight.
Adom-Otchere's release and subsequent recall by the OSP have sparked interest in the ongoing investigation. The case highlights the OSP's efforts to crack down on procurement infractions and abuse of public office. As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the next steps taken by the OSP.
