Paul Adom-Otchere is Host of 'Good Evening Ghana' on Metro TV

A high-profile defamation lawsuit has been filed in Ghana, pitting a former government official against a prominent television host. Dr. Tony Aubynn, ex-CEO of the Minerals Commission, is suing Paul Adom-Otchere, host of Good Evening Ghana, for allegedly making defamatory statements against him.

According to court documents, Dr. Aubynn is seeking a retraction, apology, and damages totaling 40 million Ghanaian cedis (approximately $6 million USD).

He claims that Adom-Otchere's remarks, aired on his show, were designed to tarnish his reputation and undermine his credibility.

The lawsuit also names Ignite Media Group, the parent company of Adom-Otchere's show, as a co-defendant to the action filed on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

Dr. Aubynn alleges that the defendants knowingly published false and malicious statements about him, which were then widely circulated and distributed.

He is therefore requesting the High Court, Accra to compel Adom-Otchere to offer a “retraction and an unqualified apology” to him “using the same media platforms used in publishing the defamatory statements complained of.”

The Plaintiff is also seeking an “order in the nature of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants and their assigns from making any further publication or “circulated any other similar defamatory words touching and/or otherwise concerning the Plaintiff herein.”
