Violence erupts in Oforikrom as angry mob attacks Immigration Officers

A disturbing incident of violence has shaken the Ashanti Region of Ghana, where five individuals, including three immigration officers, were injured in a brutal attack by an angry mob. The assault occurred on Tuesday evening at a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) property in Ayigya, within the Oforikrom Municipality.

Eyewitnesses describe a chaotic scene, with the mob, allegedly led by a disgruntled neighbour, storming the property with machetes and other deadly weapons. The attackers attempted to set the building ablaze, causing damage to parts of the structure.

Additionally, they made off with stolen items, including mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The root of the violence appears to be a long-standing property dispute between the GIS and the neighbour, who claims ownership of the building. Despite three court rulings in favour of the GIS, the neighbour allegedly resorted to intimidation and violence.

According to Citi News, seven individuals, including the primary suspect, have been arrested in connection with the attack.
