Parliament to Grill BoG Governor Over Multimillion-Dollar HQ on March 5

Accra, Ghana - 28 Feb, 2025 - The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, is set to appear before Parliament on March 5, 2025, to address mounting concerns over the construction of the central bank's new headquarters, a project that has sparked intense scrutiny and debate.
The summons comes after lawmakers from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised concerns about the project's financing, cost, and scope. Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stated that the bank's management must provide justification for the new building, including explanations for price variations and the need for a new headquarters.
The new headquarters, inaugurated by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2024, boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance the central bank's regulatory capacity. However, lawmakers are seeking clarity on the project's details to ensure that public funds were utilized efficiently.
“We have decided at the committee meeting that next week, Wednesday, we will invite the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as an independent constitutional body, to come to this house to brief us on the pricing of the new Bank of Ghana head office building.
“We want to know how the price variation took place, how quantities were, and the justification for the need for a new Bank of Ghana Headquarters,” Ayariga stated on the floor of Parliament.
