Parliament Suspends Sittings to Mourn Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings
Accra ,Ghana - October 23,2025 - In a show of respect, Ghana's Parliament has suspended its proceedings following the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. The adjournment was moved by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, allowing lawmakers to pay tribute to the departed leader.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a pioneering figure in Ghanaian politics, left an indelible mark on the nation's history. As First Lady from 1982 to 2001, she championed women's empowerment and social development, founding the 31st December Women's Movement, which established preschools, promoted literacy, and advanced economic opportunities for women.
The news of her passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, with politicians commending her contributions to Ghana's development. Parliament is expected to resume sittings after a period of mourning, with plans to officially recognize Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings' legacy.
