Helicopter Crash: Police Outline Traffic Strategy for Today's State Funeral
Accra, Ghana – 15 August, 2025 – In preparation for the state funeral honoring the victims of the recent military helicopter tragedy, the Ghana Police Service is implementing temporary roadblocks, redirecting traffic, and designating specific parking areas.
This interfaith ceremony is scheduled to take place at Accra's Independence Square on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Road Closures:
- 28th February Road: Closed from CEPS Traffic Light Intersection to Castle Road Junction
- Osu Cemetery Traffic Light: Closed on Lokko Street
- Castle Road: Closed from AU Circle to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light
- Starlet 91 Road: Closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection
Traffic Diversions:
- From La, Labone, and Osu: Traffic on 28th February Road towards Central Business District and Ministries will be diverted onto Salem Avenue Road at Castle Traffic Light to connect with Oxford Street
- From Lokko Street to Castle Road: Use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street in Osu
- From John Evans Atta Mills High Street to Black Star Square: Diverted onto Liberia Road at CEPS Traffic Intersection towards National Theatre Traffic Light
- From AU Circle to Castle Road: Diverted onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads, linking to Abdul Nasser Road near Ghana Institute of Journalism
Approved Parking Zones:
- Black Star Square: VVIP and VIP parking (vehicles with RED VVIP windscreen stickers only)
- Forecourt of the State House
- Accra International Conference Centre
- Access Bank Car Park
- Osu Cemetery Car Park
- Accra Sports Stadium Car Park
- Ministries Area
- Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park
- Marine Drive Football Park
- Afua Sutherland Car Park
Enforcement Measures:
Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas or driven through restricted routes will be towed at the owner's expense. Towing and recovery trucks will be on standby to remove abandoned or wrongly parked vehicles.
