Over 150,000 Youth Have Signed Up for National Apprenticeship Programme - NYA
Accra, Ghana - 24 June, 2025 - The National Youth Authority (NYA) in Ghana has reported an overwhelming response to its National Apprenticeship Programme, with over 150,000 Ghanaians enrolling in the initiative. This far exceeds the initial target of 10,000 participants for the first phase, demonstrating the eagerness of Ghanaian youth to acquire skills and seize opportunities.
According to Jacob Adongo, Deputy CEO of the NYA, the applicants are currently undergoing registration and assessment, with training set to commence in July. The programme aims to equip individuals with various apprenticeship skills, providing them with a chance to develop their talents and become self-reliant.
Speaking at a meeting with master craftsmen to discuss skills development in Ghana, Adongo encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunity and learn new skills.
He emphasized the importance of seizing the moment and advised participants to remain focused and dedicated to their training.
“The young people of this country are very resilient; they are not lazy, and all they need is opportunity, and this type of opportunity has been made available. We want you to take advantage of this opportunity and learn. Strike very hard, let us reduce the alcohol intake, drugs and take advantage of the opportunity,” he advised.
To support the participants, the NYA will provide stipends for transportation and start-up kits to encourage and motivate them. This initiative is part of the Authority's efforts to empower Ghanaian youth and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in the job market.
