Nurse Queried Over Scathing Attack on Health Minister

Ashanti Region, Ghana - A staff nurse at Nkenkaasu District Hospital in Ghana's Ashanti Region is facing disciplinary action after allegedly circulating videos on social media using abusive language against the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The nurse, identified as Ms. Bernice Aboagye, has been issued a query letter by hospital management, demanding an explanation for her actions.

The controversy began when Ms. Aboagye's videos went viral on social media, featuring her using "unprintable, inappropriate, and scandalous" words against the Minister of Health. The videos sparked widespread public criticism, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over the nurse's behavior and its potential impact on the Ghana Health Service's reputation.

In a strongly worded query letter dated October 10, 2025, Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, the hospital's Medical Superintendent, detailed the allegations against Ms. Aboagye. The management emphasized that the nurse's actions were in violation of the Ghana Health Service's Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures. Specifically, Ms. Aboagye is accused of using unacceptable and inappropriate language towards the Minister of Health, contravening Section 8(1)(c) of the code, using abusive language against the Minister, breaching Section 8(1)(f) of the code, and damaging the reputation of the Ghana Health Service, contrary to Section 4.1(d) of the code.

Ms. Aboagye has been directed to respond to the query by October 24, 2025, explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against her. The hospital management has made it clear that failure to comply may result in further proceedings under the service's guidelines.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online, with some sympathizing with Ms. Aboagye due to reported delays in salary payments to nurses. However, others insist that healthcare professionals must maintain professionalism and decorum, regardless of challenges.

The controversy comes amid ongoing tensions in Ghana's healthcare sector, where frontline workers have frequently voiced frustrations over inadequate resources, staffing shortages, and working conditions.
