NPP's Charles Forson Wins Tema Central Seat After Recollation
Accra, Ghana - 05 Jan, 2025 -
A High Court directive has led to the re-collation of results in Ghana's Tema Central constituency, confirming Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner. Forson secured 18,870 votes, narrowly beating National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Ebi Bright, who polled 18,815 votes.
The Electoral Commission (EC) completed the re-collation of results from two outstanding polling stations at the Accra Regional Office, following a High Court order. The court also mandated the Inspector General of Police to provide armed security during the collation exercises to ensure a peaceful process.
Justice Forson Agyapong emphasized the EC's obligation to perform its public duties without prejudice, stating that only the returning officer's declaration is legally valid. The court's ruling followed mandamus applications filed by NPP candidates in affected constituencies, compelling the EC to fulfill its statutory duties.
