Election 2024: IGP Dampare warns of potential threats, appeals for public support to prevent violence
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is Ghana's Inspector General of Police

Ghana's Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on citizens to play a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability by helping to identify potential troublemakers during the upcoming December 7 elections.

Speaking at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra, Dr. Dampare emphasized the importance of community in helping to prevent election violence.

The police chief's appeal comes as Ghana prepares for a critical election period, with concerns about potential disruptions and violence. Dr. Dampare's statement underscores the police's commitment to ensuring a peaceful election process and the need for public cooperation.

Experts warn that the spread of misinformation and disinformation can pose a significant threat to the electoral process.

In addition, the use of artificial intelligence can supercharge the creation and dissemination of disinformation, further complicating the situation,

To mitigate these risks, Dr. Dampare is urging citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

“We may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think that they can make an attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those people, you may be in the community, you may hear of them, you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so that we will give them a place that has been designated for them.

“As we speak, the police cells have vacancies, the prisons have vacancies. So that proactively we move them out of our community and keep them where they want to be kept so that we continue to live our lives to the fullest during the rest of the election period and beyond,” Dampare stated.
