NPP Withdraws from Media General Platforms Over Claims of Unprofessionalism

Accra, Ghana -27 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has withdrawn from all Media General platforms, citing allegations of bias and unprofessionalism in the media group's political coverage.

The decision, announced in a statement by the party's Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, follows months of unsuccessful attempts to address concerns about unfair treatment, including unbalanced panel discussions and repeated attacks on leading party figures.

A specific incident on a TV3 program hosted by Keminni Amanor, where a guest made inflammatory remarks about former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was cited as an example of the alleged bias. The NPP accused the host of condoning the comments by failing to intervene.

The party also criticized Media General's political shows, such as Key Points and Newday, for assembling panels that favor the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), leaving NPP representatives outnumbered.

Despite assurances of reform, the NPP claims that the issues of bias and unprofessionalism have persisted, prompting the party to withdraw from all Media General platforms.

The NPP has assured its members and the public that this withdrawal will not affect its commitment to holding the government accountable.
