CETAG Calls Off Three-Week Strike, but Warns of Unresolved Concern

Accra, Ghana - 27 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) has suspended its three-week strike after the government partially fulfilled some of the National Labour Commission's arbitration awards.

However, CETAG emphasized that several key issues remain unresolved, including payment of compensation for additional work done in 2022 across 42 colleges.

The outstanding issues also include payment of arrears for the 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance, which is dependent on the implementation of an arbitral award granted by the NLC on May 2, 2023. Additionally, CETAG is seeking payment of 2022/2023 Book and Research Allowance Top-Up arrears for deserving staff at Akrokerri College of Education.

CETAG has also expressed concerns about the non-migration and improper placement of some of its members. The association has urged its members to resume work immediately, while reassuring them that ongoing efforts will continue to address these issues and ensure that all concerns are resolved.

The association has expressed gratitude to its members for their support and loyalty during the strike, as well as to the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD), and the media for their support during the final stages of the migration process.
