We are the minority, not micro minority - Afenyo- Markin tells Speaker Bagbin

Accra, Ghana - 08 Jan, 2025 - In a dramatic turn of events, the Minority Members of Parliament have strongly objected to Speaker Alban Bagbin's description of their caucus as a "micro-minority" during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin led the protest, expressing the caucus's dissatisfaction and stating that the label was inappropriate and uncalled for. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the Minority caucus does not accept the term "micro-minority" and urged Speaker Bagbin to address them as "minority semplicità" instead.

Afenyo-Markin also reminded Speaker Bagbin of the Minority's crucial role in supporting his election as Speaker, despite opposition from the majority.

“Mr Speaker, we do not have any micro minority. Mr Speaker, the minority caucus hereby protests the description given to us by Mr Speaker.”

“Mr Speaker, we seconded the motion for your election. When the so-called majority was even conspiring against you, we protested. We stopped them from that conspiracy. Mr Speaker, it was us, the minority of conscience,” he added.

The incident has sparked discontent among Minority caucus members, who feel that the "micro-minority" label undermines their role and dignity in Parliament.
