Afenyo-Markin pushes for Parliament's Emergency Recall
Alexander Afenyo-Markin is Leader of the NPP Caucus in Ghana's Parliament

Accra Ghana - Nov 22, 2024 - Ghana's Parliament is poised for an emergency recall, following a formal petition by the Majority Caucus to Speaker Alban Bagbin.

The move aims to address critical government business that requires immediate attention, after Parliament's indefinite adjournment on November 7.

At the heart of the recall is a pressing need to tackle outstanding business, including a request for tax exemptions under the One District, One Factory Programme, and the consideration of the President's nominations for Supreme Court justices.

The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged Speaker Bagbin to exercise his constitutional mandate to reconvene Parliament, emphasizing that these matters are of high priority for the government.

In a letter dated November 22, 2024, Afenyo-Markin proposed November 28 and 29 as suitable dates for the emergency recall, citing the need for bipartisan cooperation to advance the national interest.

"I must emphasise, respectfully, that these are high priority business for Government."

“It would demonstrate that, even as we approach the peak of the electoral season, Parliament remains steadfast in its constitutional duties and committed to advancing the national interest through bipartisan cooperation,” he added.
