Accra, Ghana - 20 March, 2025 - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana has taken a firm stance against internal dissent, referring former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo to its National Disciplinary Committee.

The move comes after Adwoa Safo made public comments on the party's 2024 electoral defeat, which were deemed to be in contravention of the party's directives.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong in a statement noted that Adwoa Safo's actions undermined the party's efforts to rebuild and move forward.

He emphasized that as a senior member of the party, Adwoa Safo was expected to uphold the principles of discipline, loyalty, and unity.

“As a former Member of Parliament, Former Deputy Majority Leader, and Former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty and unity that have always defined our great party.

“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also in contravention of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, among others enjoins us to promote ar.d defend the good name of the Party.

“In breach of the above provision of the Party’s constitution and the directives issued earlier, Hon Sarah Adwoa Sarfo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the Party for rusher action,'' portions of the statement read.

The NPP's decision to take disciplinary action against Adwoa Safo highlights the party's efforts to maintain unity and discipline in the face of electoral defeat. The move is also seen as a warning to other party members who may be tempted to make public comments that could be detrimental to the party's interests.

Adwoa Safo's comments, which sparked controversy, included her criticism of the NPP's committee to probe the party's electoral defeat. She described the committee as "bogus" and warned against blaming the party's presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the defeat.
