Justin Frimpong Kodua is General of the Secretary New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Accra, Ghana - Nov 21, 2024 - Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged authorities to boost security measures ahead of the December 7 elections, citing concerns over potential violence.

Speaking during a police briefing with political party representatives on election preparedness,  the party's General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua warned of intelligence suggesting chaos may erupt in the Ashanti Region.

He emphasized the need for proactive steps to ensure peace.

The NPP is also advocating for stricter motorbike controls on election day, citing past incidents in Assin North.

“No one should be above the law, and on December 7, violence should not play any role in our elections and we want the police to ensure peace during the polls.

“We have picked up intelligence that some people are planning to cause chaos in the Ashanti region. Having said that, the use of motorbikes on December 7, in the past, we realised that people use motorbikes to cause trouble and so we want to know whether people will be allowed to freely use motorbikes around polling stations.”
