Mahama accuses EC of favoring NPP as Ghana goes to the polls on Dec 7
With only hours to go before Ghana's presidential and parliamentary elections, opposition leader John Dramani Mahama has made alarming allegations against the Electoral Commission. Mahama claims the Commission is deliberately aiding the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the elections.
According to Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reported multiple cases of exposed validating stamps to the Commission since Thursday night. However, the Commission has failed to issue a clear directive to prevent further disclosure of the stamps' identities and details.
In a Facebook post on Friday Dec 6, Mahama warned that this exposure enables the NPP to produce fake ballot papers with similar stamps, potentially compromising the election's integrity.
He cited an internal Commission memo dated October 10, 2024, as evidence of a "well-calculated plot" to facilitate ballot stuffing.
In response to these allegations, Mahama called on the National Peace Council, religious and traditional leaders, civil society, the international community, and election observer missions to intervene and ensure the Electoral Commission upholds its impartiality.
