No changes to ballot order, says EC
Accra, Ghana - Nov 12, 2024 - The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed that it will retain the original ballot order for the upcoming presidential election, despite the disqualification of Philip Appiah Kubi, the Ghana Freedom Party's (GFP) candidate.
This decision was announced by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12.
Reasoning Behind the Decision
According to Jean Mensa, the disqualification of the GFP candidate does not necessitate changes to the ballot structure. Maintaining the current arrangement avoids disruption and minimizes logistical issues.
“This morning, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you may be aware since you have representatives in the printing houses, we are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots.”
Preparations for the Election
The printing of presidential ballots is already 90% complete, with the Commission on track to meet all deadlines. Election materials will be ready well before voting day, ensuring a seamless process.
Background
Philip Appiah Kubi was nominated as a replacement for Akua Donkor, the GFP's initial presidential candidate and founder, who passed away on October 28. The EC's decision to maintain the original ballot order reflects its focus on efficiency and minimizing potential disruptions.
