Next NDC gov't will prioritise accessible and affordable healthcare for all - Mahama

Nkoranza North, Ghana - Nov 13, 2024 - Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sounded the alarm on Ghana's healthcare sector, citing exorbitant costs and inadequate infrastructure as major concerns.

During the commissioning of a newly built maternity and children's ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North, Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to providing free primary healthcare for all Ghanaians.

Healthcare Reforms

Mahama's administration plans to prioritize accessible and affordable healthcare, particularly for underserved communities. Key components of his agenda include:

- Improving Healthcare Infrastructure: Upgrading existing facilities and expanding access to essential services
- Free Primary Healthcare: Ensuring all Ghanaians have access to quality healthcare regardless of socioeconomic background
- Free Sanitary Pads Programme: Providing hygienic pads for female students to improve school attendance

Mahama emphasized that many Ghanaians struggle to access medical care due to prohibitively expensive costs. He vowed to address this issue, stating; “Many Ghanaians can not access the medical care they need, sometimes not because healthcare facilities don’t exist, but because the costs are often beyond their reach.

“For this reason, among others, the next NDC government, which God willing I will lead, will prioritise critical social interventions designed to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for every Ghanaian, regardless of their socioeconomic background.”

“We intend to establish a free sanitary pad programme for all our girls in secondary schools who are having to skip school because they cannot afford to have hygienic pads to be able to protect themselves. And so this is another programme that we will introduce for school girls'', he added.
