New Global InfoAnalytics Poll Shows 53% of Ghanaians Approve of Chief Justice Torkonoo's Suspension

Accra, Ghana - 21 May, 2025 - A nationwide poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics indicates that 53% of Ghanaians back President John Mahama's decision to suspend Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The suspension, announced on April 22, 2025, follows allegations against her and an ongoing investigation.
The survey reveals that 53% of respondents approve of the suspension, while 20% disapprove. If evidence of misconduct is uncovered, support for her removal remains relatively steady, with 20% backing her ouster.
The opposition to the suspension was largely driven by NPP voters, who made up 51% of those opposed, while NDC voters were overwhelmingly supportive. Regionally, the North East and Northern regions were the only areas where the suspension didn't have majority support.
NDC voters showed strong backing for the suspension at 87%, whereas NPP voters were largely opposed, with only 13% in support.
Floating voters were more divided, with 54% supporting the suspension and 9% opposing it.
The poll, which sampled 2,558 voters across 16 regions, has a margin of error of ±2.51%.
As the investigation continues, its outcome may significantly impact Ghana's judicial system.
