NDC will cancel double track system - Asiedu Nketiah
Ashanti Region, Ghana - Nov 10, 2024 - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to abolishing the double-track system in Senior High Schools (SHSs) if voted into power.
Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah made this promise while addressing constituents in Sekyeredumasi as part of his Ashanti Region tour.
NDC's Education Plan
- Scrap Double-Track System: The party aims to cancel the existing system, where students attend school for three months and stay home for six months.
- Complete Community Day Schools: NDC plans to finish all 200 community day schools to increase students' access to education.
- Improve Free SHS Policy: The party has pledged to enhance the Free SHS policy, ensuring enough dormitories, classrooms, and amenities for students.
Nketiah emphasized that the NDC's strategy focuses on providing equal educational opportunities for all students. This announcement comes as the double-track system has faced criticism for its impact on quality education outcome. Research has shown that students in double-track schools tend to perform poorly.
The NDC's proposed changes aim to address these concerns and improve Ghana's education system.
“Our strategy is to complete all 200 community day schools. This will ensure all students have access to education. There will be enough dormitories, classrooms, and all amenities to ensure they all go to school in the same period.”
“The prevailing double-track system, where students go to school for three months and stay home for six months, will be cancelled under the next NDC administration,” Nketiah said.
