French Ambassador calls for free, fair elections in Ghana
Accra, Ghana - Nov 10, 2024 - The French Ambassador to Ghana, Jules-Armand Aniambossou, has emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values in Ghana as the country prepares for its general elections on December 7, 2024.
Speaking at the Annual Cocktail event with the French business community and the launch of the France-Ghana Economic Report 2023-2024 in Accra, Ambassador Aniambossou expressed his wishes for a peaceful, free, and fair election process.
"Ghana is known for being the beacon of democracy in the region and beyond, and it is important that it continues to promote democratic values and respect for constitutional order," he stated.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government's zero-tolerance stance on any efforts to destabilize Ghana's democracy. In his final National Best Farmer Awards address, the president underscored his commitment to preserving peace and security during this pivotal electoral period.
“As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make one thing absolutely clear again. I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build and a legacy that must be protected.
“The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempts to disrupt the peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full weight of the law. Let there be no doubt, that our democracy will remain strong and the people’s choice will prevail,'' he stated.
As Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections, the international community is watching closely. The country's ability to maintain its democratic values and ensure a peaceful transfer of power will be crucial in solidifying its position as a beacon of democracy in the region.
