NDC Will Build Public University in Savannah Region - Mahama

Savannah Region, Ghana - 14 June, 2025 - Ghana's former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to establish a public university in the Savannah Region, fulfilling the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) 2024 manifesto promise to create universities in all six newly created regions.
Mahama made this announcement during a thank-you tour in the region, emphasizing that the university will be a strategic addition to Ghana's development framework, focusing on skills-driven development.
The proposed university will play a crucial role in supporting Mahama's Feed Ghana program, aimed at transforming agriculture into a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
According to Mahama, the institution will train human resources to drive this initiative, contributing to an agriculture-for-economic-transformation agenda.
“I’m proud to announce that, in line with the NDC’s 2024 manifesto to establish a public university in each of the six new regions, a public university will be built right here in the Savannah Region,” he stated.
“This university will not only be symbolic; it will be functional, targeted, and grounded in our national agenda for skills-driven development,” Mahama declared.
“This university will train the human resources to drive our Feed Ghana programme and help deliver an agriculture-for-economic-transformation agenda,” he added.
