NDC Vows to Contest Disputed Results of Akwatia, Fanteakwa North and Suhum Constituencies
A dispute has erupted over the results of three parliamentary constituencies in Ghana, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vowing to contest the outcomes. The Electoral Commission (EC) announced the results for Akwatia, Fanteakwa North, and Suhum constituencies in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on December 12.
However, the NDC has raised objections to the process, arguing that the declarations were made at an improper venue - the National Police Training School in Tesano - rather than in the respective regions of the constituencies. According to the NDC, this contravenes established procedures and regulations.
George Loh, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, in an interview on the 'Citi Breakfast Show' on Dec 16, stated that the party considers the declarations to be illegal and will challenge them through the courts.
“The point we are making is that we were invited by the EC to the National Police Training School, and we went there and we waited, and we were of the view that even if the process is completed, it cannot be taken out of the respective regions because it is not in tandem with the law.
“An illegality is an illegality, and for that reason, we will be going to court. All those declarations done at the Police Training School are illegal and we will fight till the very end. We will fight them in cour,'' he stated.
