Akufo-Addo's Statue in Sekondi-Takoradi Found Damaged Amid Backlash

A statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo, unveiled just ahead of Ghana's general elections, has been found damaged in Sekondi-Takoradi, Western Region. The statue, erected in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, was intended to honour the president's initiatives in the region, including hospital rehabilitation and infrastructure development.

However, the monument has been a subject of contention among locals, with some vowing to bring it down. The damage, discovered on Monday, December 16, 2024, has sparked speculation about its cause, with theories ranging from deliberate vandalism to structural defects.

Residents have expressed mixed reactions to the development. While some, like Doris Arhin, expressed surprise at the damage, others, such as Esther Anosi, attributed it to the rushed construction process.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, had earlier stated that the statue was meant to commemorate the president's achievements in the region.
