National Security Shake-Up: Misconduct Condemned, New Strategy Unveiled
National Security Coordinator, DCOP Osman Abdul-Razak, has taken a firm stance against misconduct among his operatives

Accra, Ghana – 2 August, 2025 – The National Security Coordinator, DCOP Osman Abdul-Razak, has taken a firm stance against misconduct among his operatives, denouncing their actions as "disgraceful" and detrimental to the reputation of the National Security Secretariat. Speaking at a high-level meeting with the National House of Chiefs on August 1, DCOP Abdul-Razak expressed deep concern over unprofessional behavior among some personnel.

In response to these issues, the National Security Secretariat has introduced a new operational strategy aimed at realigning its role within the national security framework. Under this new approach, National Security operatives will no longer be directly deployed on the ground unless necessary. Instead, traditional security agencies such as the police, immigration, and prison service will take the lead in operations, with National Security intervening only when challenges arise.

“We have changed our modus operandi,” he announced. “The National Security will now allow the various security agencies to operate directly on the ground and will only intervene when challenges arise.”

DCOP Abdul-Razak explained that this change is part of the government's broader "reset agenda," which seeks to enhance professionalism, coordination, and efficiency across the country's security architecture. The new policy aims to sanitize operations, reduce friction between agencies, and ensure that the National Security Secretariat functions as a strategic coordinating body rather than a frontline operational unit.

The National Security Coordinator emphasized that the new approach will help to improve coordination between security agencies and ensure that each agency plays its role effectively. By stepping back from direct operational involvement, National Security can focus on its core function of coordinating and providing strategic guidance to security agencies.

The introduction of this new strategy is expected to enhance accountability within the National Security Secretariat and promote a culture of professionalism among its operatives.
