Armed Robbery Gang Neutralized in Atebubu Shootout

Atebubu-Bono East Region, Ghana – 2 August, 2025 – A daring anti-robbery operation by the Ghana Police Service has resulted in the deaths of two suspected armed robbers in Atebubu, Bono East Region. The incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when a police patrol team encountered the suspects attacking commuters on the Atebubu highway.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, prompting a swift response. Two of the suspects were fatally wounded in the ensuing shootout and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The remaining gang members fled into nearby bushes, and an intensive manhunt is currently underway to apprehend them.

A search of the scene yielded a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete, indicating the suspects were heavily armed.

In a statement posted on Facebook on August 2,the Ghana Police Service assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring the fleeing suspects to justice and maintain safety along major road networks. This operation demonstrates the police's commitment to tackling armed robbery and ensuring public security.
