NACOC Seizes Massive Cannabis Consignment at Swissport Terminal, Two Suspects Arrested

Accra's, Ghana - 7 July, 2025 - Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized a massive consignment of suspected cannabis worth thousands of dollars, foiling an attempt to smuggle the illicit substance to the United Kingdom.

The interception was made on July 5 at the Swissport Terminal in Accra, where 738 compressed parcels of cannabis were found hidden in 40 boxes falsely labelled as "assorted food items".

The seizure is part of a larger crackdown on international drug trafficking networks operating in Ghana. According to NACOC, the consignment was bound for the UK, highlighting Ghana's persistent challenge as a transit point for illicit drugs destined for European markets.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure, while two other key suspects, Lincoln Nii Okaija and Kate Davidson, alias "Esi", have been declared wanted. The public has been urged to provide any information that could lead to their capture.

This latest seizure is a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in Ghana. According to NACOC's 2022 statistics, the commission seized a record-breaking 59,900 kg of illicit drugs that year, a significant increase from 15,458 kg in 2021. Cannabis consistently features in large quantities due to its local cultivation and demand, as well as its role in international illicit trade routes.
